Brenda Davis, registered dietitian, is a leader in her field and an acclaimed speaker. She has worked as a research dietitian, public health nutritionist, clinical nutrition specialist, nutrition consultant and academic nutrition instructor. She is the lead dietitian in a diabetes project doing community intervention work in Majuro, Marshall Islands. Brenda is co-author of ten vegetarian and vegan nutrition classics including her most recent work Becoming Vegan: Comprehensive Edition. Brenda has authored numerous professional and lay articles. She is a past chair of the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association. In 2007, she was inducted into the Vegetarian Hall of Fame.
Dana Laake and her special guest, Dr. Scott Minton, Ph.D., will be discussing vegetarian sources of omega-3 and how they compare to fish oil.
Dr. Minton earned both a Masters and Ph.D. in Resource Ecology from the University of Michigan. He was a tenured Associate Professor at Vanguard University in the Biological Sciences. As a nutritional consultant, Dr. Minton practiced evidence-based nutrition, basing his dietary programs on a comprehensive intake process and advanced nutritional laboratory testing. This individual-centered strategy yielded successful experiences for patients with longstanding fatigue, excess weight gain, digestive distress, lowered immune function, hormone imbalances and other inflammatory conditions.
Dr. Kevin Passero and his special guest Stuart Tomc will be discussing sustainable foods, vegetarian EPA/DHA, and balancing omega fats.
Stuart Tomc has over 20 years of experience in the field of nutritional medicine. He is an authority on evidence-based dietary supplements and a respected consultant to the World Health Organization and integrative physicians worldwide. Stuart currently serves as Global Educator and spokesperson for Nordic Naturals.
